After School Clubs/School Competitions
As part of our ILM Academy's enrichment program, our school proudly hosts the following after-school clubs/school competitions:
Our goal is to provide as many opportunities for students to indulge in extracurricular activities. However, this is all tentative; depending on resource availability and interest from our student/parent-body. To accommodate a certain club/activity, the school sends out a parent survey in order to gauge parent enthusiasm and commitment.
- Robotics - An afterschool program where students from Grades 2 - 8will use STEM-basededucational concepts to learn how to design, build, and program robots using IPad and computers.
- Spelling Bee - An in-school spelling competition where the top three winners are recognized.
- Soccer Club - The program will be focused on teaching the essential skills of soccer, motivating the students to learn the fundamentals rules of soccer, help build a greater sense of teamwork among peers, knowledge, and appreciation of the game and good sportsmanship. The fundamentals that will be taught are how to receive, pass, and kick the ball. The goal is to prepare the students to play using the skills taught in this program and to compete with other teams. This program is for boys from Grades 3rd and up.
- Art Club - The club will focus on teaching the essential skills of art, motivating the students from Grades 3 to 8to learn the fundamental concepts of painting and sculpture, help build a greater sense of creativity, knowledge, and nurture their imagination. The fundamentals that will be taught are how to paint with acrylic and watercolors, as well as sculpt clay.
- Science Olympiad - The afterschool club for students that are in Grades 3 to 8. The club will provide students engaging learning opportunities in a variety of STEM lessons. Students will work on different events involving hands-onactivities and will then compete in a regional competition.
- Model United Nations - At Model UN, students in Grades 6 and up, step into the shoes of ambassadors of countries that are members of the United Nations. They debate current issues, draft resolutions, plot strategy, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the UN's rules of procedure- all in the interest of resolving problems that affect the world.
- Beta Club - Promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character development, service, and enhance leadership through compassion among elementary and secondary school students. The club recognizes and honors high academic achievement and prepares young people for life and empowering them to be successful, and it also aims to develop the leaders of tomorrow.Students in Grades 4 to 8 must meet the following requirements to qualify for the initial selection of the club (round 1): GPA - 3.0 and/or Spring MAP scores (that shows the student has scored high (80% and above)in five skill sets or more).
- National Junior Honor Society - The program recognizes outstanding middle school level students. NJHShonors students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.Students must meet the following criteria to qualify for the initial selection of the club: *GPA of 3.0 and above, *Fall MAP scores, *Islamic Studies - Student must have an "A" average in quarter 1.
- Multiplication Bee - In-school competition where students compete to test multiplication skills and top winners are recognized at the end of the school year.
- Qur'an Competition - Students are judged in their knowledge of the rules of tajweed, memorization, articulation of the letters, and confidence in recitation.
- FLAG FELS Language Contest -The FLAGSchool Spoken Language Contest is an annual event in which students are invited by their teacher todemonstrate their ability to use the target language in oral communication.
- Georgia Student Technology Competition -GASTC is a statewide technology competition where students in grades 3-12 compete in a variety of technology categories to display technology skills in various formats.
- Science Olympiad Competition -ILM Academy’s Science Olympiad club hands-on learning club for students to help them prep to compete in the Regional competition.
- Qur'an Showcase (UISA) -This is a Qur'an recitation showcase of students from all Islamic schools that are part of the UISA (United Islamic Schools of Atlanta) organization.
- Islamic Quiz Bowl - An in-school jeopardy style competition to test Islamic knowledge about the Pillars of Imaan (Allah, Angels, Prophet, Books, and Afterlife). The winning team is recognized at the end of the school year.
- Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl -The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is an exciting competition that encourages students to read a selection of 10 books by January and then compete in questions that cover the content, theme, plot, characters and setting.
- STEAMIFY Competition -STEAMIFY is a design-based, problem solving competition that gives students the opportunity to apply the content they are learning in the contexts of either engineering or art.
- Girls Kick Ball Club -Kickball club will focus on imparting the knowledge and essential skills of kickball, inculcate teamwork and good sportsmanship in the students. Some of the basic fundamental skills that will be taught will include learning the rules of the game, learning to kick effectively and how to play strategically. The goal is to prepare the students to play using the skills taught in this program. Participation in the club will improve overall student athletic performance.
