Position: Pre-K and/or Elementary School Teacher (multiple positions)
Reports to: School Principal
Position description:
The Elementary School Teacher provides an educational atmosphere to 3-8 year old children, where they have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological growth. The teacher coordinates the English/Language Arts program for second grade students utilizing the most effective tools and teaching methodologies available. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance to the Curriculum.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
- Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
- Collaborates with peers to provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Completes all grading, creates weekly lesson plans and report cards, and conducts parent conferences in a timely manner.
- Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
- Supports students and parents with alternate strategies and provides additional assistance with daily assignments and projects.
- Models spiritual maturity in leading students towards Islam and spiritual growth.
- Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
- Assumes responsibility for meeting course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Inculcates the kids with a sense of respect, order and self-discipline while encouraging them to be innovative and curious.
- Coordinates weekly with the Islamic education teacher to establish a comprehensive plan for integrating in secular subjects the themes taught in the Islamic subjects.
- Demonstrates gains in student performance.
- Participates in training and presentations about online teaching.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating with others, etc.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator.
Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- Two years teaching experience
- A willingness to share and portray Islamic mannerism and way of living including modest Islamic dress code
- Educational Certification
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Education a plus
- Operational knowledge of the Internet and web-related technologies
Technical Competencies and Skills:
- Must possess ability to use technical skills in order to construct, implement and share lesson planning.
- Must possess ability to use a computer for instructional and communication purposes with students, parents and staff.
- Ability to use internet based search engines for educational research purposes.
- Knowledge of MS office or equivalent.
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills.
- Works independently with little direct supervision.
- Works well as part of a team and is comfortable in a leadership role.
- Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic in order to achieve team and individual goals.
- Displays effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
- CPR and First Aid Training a plus.
Salary:
Competitive with other Islamic Schools. Depends on qualifications and experience.
